Brief feature description

Curragower falls is found in the heart of Limerick city under the shadow of King John's castle. The falls are formed when the river Shannon drops over a rock ledge at the right tide. When the river is high the volume of water and the combination of low tide turn the falls into a freestyle playground. The waves are usually surfable 2 hours before low tide. Which of the waves form will depend on the flow.

On very high water Lil Gower forms near the river right bank. This is a small fast wave which at the right level has a nice foam pile on top, but best only paddled when the main wave is washed out.

At exceptional flood levels Little 'Gower can grow to an amazing 6 foot wave.

Location

Park and play feature in Limerick City. Go to Clancy's stand in Limerick city on river right. Park anywhere on Clancy's strand. The Curragower bar don't like paddlers parking in the car park they have rented from the city council.

Access

No access issues to the wave. There is a slipway both above and below the feature on river right. Parking can be a problem as the Curragower pub has prohibited kayakers from parking outside their pub in their private car park. in recent times kayakers have taken to parking up in the housing estate just downstream from where the Curragower pub is
